Collaborative Planning and Teaching Session
Introduction
On the 10th of September 2021, a collaborative planning and teaching session was held at the school’s staffroom for the English department. The session was facilitated by the head of department, and it was aimed at brainstorming the most effective teaching strategies for the upcoming term.Discussion
The session began with a brief discussion on the teaching approaches adopted in the previous term. Teachers were asked to reflect on how effective these approaches were in terms of achieving learning outcomes. It was observed that most teachers had used traditional teaching methods such as chalk and talk, and most students had struggled with understanding difficult concepts. To address these challenges, the department agreed that we would focus on developing more interactive and collaborative teaching strategies in the upcoming term. We also agreed to emphasize the use of technology in our teaching approaches since most students are already familiar with digital devices. Each teacher then presented their ideas on how we could use technology to enhance our students' understanding of difficult concepts. Some of the ideas presented included using video tutorials, virtual simulations, and gamification of learning activities. Additionally, the teachers brainstormed on the most effective assessment strategies that would gauge students' understanding of the concepts taught. Conclusion
Overall, the collaborative planning and teaching session was instrumental in guiding the English department on the most effective teaching approaches to adopt in the upcoming term. Teachers left the session more enlightened on how to use technology in their teaching approaches and the importance of continuous assessment of students' progress. The department looks forward to the positive impact these new teaching strategies will have on the students' learning outcomes.
