“Dancing Shoes”: An 8-Person English Fairytale Play
Act One: The Beginning of a Fairytale
Once upon a time, in a land far away, there was a young girl named Sarah who loved to dance. She lived with her mother, who was a kind and wise woman, and her father, who was a shoemaker. Sarah would often watch her father working in his shop, creating beautiful shoes that would enchant anyone who wore them.
The Magic Shoes
One day, a mysterious old man came to their shop. He asked for a pair of shoes that he claimed would make anyone who wore them dance like never before. Sarah's father scoffed at the ridiculous request, but Sarah saw the excitement in the old man's eyes. She convinced her father to make the shoes, and as soon as they were finished, the old man disappeared without a word.
The Ball
The shoes sat in the shop for many weeks, until one day, an invitation to a ball arrived for Sarah's family. Sarah was ecstatic, as she had dreamt of attending a ball her entire life. Her parents agreed to let her go, and they gave her the shoes her father had made for the old man. She put on the shoes, and as soon as she began to dance, she knew they were magic. She danced like she had never danced before, and soon everybody in the ballroom was watching her in awe.
Act Two: The Enchantment
As Sarah danced, she caught the eye of the prince of the land. He was enchanted by her beauty and her talent, and he decided to ask her to dance with him. They danced the night away, and soon Sarah found herself falling in love with the prince. As the ball came to an end, the prince asked Sarah for her name, but she was too shy to tell him. She ran away into the night, with the prince's heart on her heels.
The Search for Sarah
The prince was determined to find Sarah, so he went to every village and town in the land, asking everyone if they knew who she was. But nobody knew the girl who danced like an angel. The prince was heartbroken, and he gave up his search. But little did he know that Sarah was living in a small village, enchanted by the magic shoes.
The Curse
The shoes had a dark side. Sarah couldn't stop dancing, and the more she danced, the more exhausted she became. Her parents didn't know what to do, and they became worried for their daughter's health. They went to a wise woman, who told them that Sarah was under a curse, and that only true love's kiss could break it.
Act Three: The Happy Ending
Meanwhile, the prince had given up on his search, until one day he stumbled upon Sarah's village. He recognized her immediately, as she was still wearing the magic shoes. He saw the exhaustion in her eyes, and he realized that the shoes were the cause of it. He tried to take them off her feet, but they wouldn't come off, no matter how hard he tried.
The True Love's Kiss
Desperate to break the curse, the prince kissed Sarah on the forehead. The shoes flew off her feet, and she awoke from her enchantment. She looked up at the prince with tears in her eyes, recognizing him from the ball. He smiled back at her, and they knew that they had found their true love.
The Wedding
The prince and Sarah were married in a grand ceremony, with everyone in the land in attendance. Sarah's father presented the prince with a gift of shoes, as a reminder of the enchanted shoes that had brought them together. And as the newlyweds danced their first dance, the shoes sat quietly in the corner of the room, waiting for their next to be enchanted.
